Kylies blog hop November

This month I have decided to take part in Kylie Bertucci's Blog Hop. I'm super excited that you are here!!

You may have come to my blog through someone else or you may start here, either way, you can click on the names at the bottom of my post & this will take you to the next persons blog & their amazing project!!

In this (long) Blog Post, I've decided to show you another way to use our stunning Designer Papers, (DSP) in my post.

I just love how versatile the products are, to so many varied projects!! I'm showing off the bright & bubbly 'See A Silhouette' DSP.

I've always loved 3D items & this type of MDF craftwood allows itself to be decorated so easily.

Checking out all the edges of the MDF, I ensured there are no rough edges or broken parts to the item.

I then painted all of edges that will be exposed when it is finished. I went with white due the classic finish & it is one of the colours in the DSP that Im using.

The biggest frustration with this is to wait for the paint to dry!!

 A work in progress!

 I almost always give the edges 2 coats, but today I did 3, it simply gives a better finish. The top piece has only 2 coats & I could still see the colour of the wood through the paint.

I always make sure that any dribbles of the paint are either rubbed , or wiped away with a slightly damp cloth so that they are flat. If they aren't, then the DSP wont lay flat on the wood - the buckled look doesn't work for me!!!

Once the paint is completely dry & I mean completely, I turn it over and run the Tear 'n Tape all over the piece of wood. Including the small space.

I chose which design I wanted for each piece, keeping in mind that (1) it needs to be the correct way up when standing, (if there is a top & bottom to the DSP & (2) it shows off the correct side of DSP that I want!

Using a sharp craft I began to cut the shape of each peice, ensuring the DSP is facing the in-correct way when I do so. I want the correct side to be showing when I adhere it later.

I also made sure that I laid the wood down the correct way, some pieces are mirror images, therefore if I place them down the same, it wont fit together later.

You can choose to make a template of your pieces first, but I'm happy to cut directly around the wood, being very careful to not slip & cut the wrong part of the sheet of DSP.

This is where I have to concerntrate, so the design I want to see is the correct way up when adhered, too!! (Please cross your fingers for me!!)

Don't run your DSP into the areas where another piece will go into the grooves, they are made precisely to fit into  the holes so won't allow for DSP or cardstock.


Where there are holes in the design, (good ones, right!!), I cut them out carefully & slowly.

Once I had completed this part, I was able to start building my little shelf.


Ta-dah!! This took about 2 2/1 hours to complete, not including drying time - what a lovely Sunday afternoon task!

It's creative, enjoyable & functional!!

I've had a couple of customers to ask to see my stamp room.

And given that it isn't absolutely clean very often, I decided do what Nike tells us all: Just Do It!!

So this is my very casual tour of my stamp room, messy desk & all!!

This was the first time I had turned the camera around to show my face, rather than the things I am making and/or my hands actually creating, so I took a minute or two to breathe...

Holiday Catalogue - Sneak Peak Blog Hop

Wow!! The year is moving so quickly & it wasn't until I signed up to this Blog Hop that I realised how neglected my Blog is...eeeek!!

So I'm super glad to be here & working on it & finding some inspiration from others.

ESAD is such a wealth of knowledge relating to SU!, as well as giggles, support & inspiration, (as mentioned above!). It is my go-to for SU! questions & beyond!!

That being said, let's get to why we are here: this Blog Hop!!

I've decided to work on a couple of cards that show-case items & techniques for the Beginner stamper, but it would also work for the time poor & those who may not have many supplies, for many reasons.

There is something organic & magical about blowing the seeds of a dandelion & watching them float away - I still do it, ad an adult & when I watch them drift away with the breeze, the world stops its ugliness, just for a minute... *sigh*

I've used the Hammered Metal 3D embossing folder, Sweet Silhouettes dies and NO STAMPING as such, only some dragging of the Soft Suede cardstock across the ink pad to give the 'dirt' some texture.

Using the negative part of the dandelion for the wispy parts floating away, it gave my card the sense of movement...& adding a bit of bling, is always necessary, right?

I've cared for turtles for many years & this little stamp image made me smile!!

I cased the first card & then made the second card to give to a turtle professional who helped me when my current little friend was ill. 

In this example, the Hammered Metal embossing folder looks exactly like a turtle's shell, so this card didn't need much else to dress it up.

Did you notice the difference between which way I've used the embossed cardstock?

When I stamped the turtle again, for the inside of the card, I used a baby wipe to wipe away his sadness & used the Basic Black marker to lift his smile the right way!!

During my preparing for this Blog Hop, my order wasn't going to arrive in time, so I raced to my fellow demo's house, Alison & she had purchased the Memories of Home stamp set. While I love the tree & its details, I wanted to team it up with something else, so that it didn't take up the whole card. 

The Dashing Deer stamp looks gorgeous on Cherry Cobbler & then clear embossed, (just like the snow falling, behind the tree).

Adding a simple Red Rhinestone to make this deer the very popular Rudolph, was a given!!

I decided to step up my stamping for the next card. It could encourage the Beginner or Casual stamper to learn new techniques.

 Using our Difference Maker stamp set, Nature's Beauty, (when you purchase this set, a portion of the money is given to various charities), I coloured the gentle doe with our Watercolour Pencils, ran the Crumb Cake ink pad over the Woodlands embossing folder before putting it through the Big Shot. 

I teamed these items with Sweet Silhouettes & Stitched Rectangle Dies with the gorgeous Wink of Stella for a little touch of shimmer.

I do love the dimension that the leaves give & her soft face peeking through the branches! I used this as a swap that I participated in also but I just had to share it with you also!!

Well considering I only had 2 of the items & a stamped image from the incredible Holiday Catalogue, (available from 4 Sep to 2 Jan), I'm pretty happy with how they can be added to various items from the Annual Catalogue.
Increasing the use of each item means that they are more affordable, gets the creative juices flowing & therefore makes even more creations, obviously!!

Curvy Keepsake Surprise!

As I've mentioned in earlier posts, I celebrated my 10th birthday/anniversary as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator this week & the class of women that I teach card techniques to, happened to be on the actual day!!

So imagine my surprise when I arrived to find this little treasure on the table, for me!!

I have always liked the Curvy Keepsake thinlits, (now retired), and teamed with these colours, it is just gorgeous!!

Deborah, who made this for me actually looked up the colour combination of a 10 year anniversary & now we all know that blue and silver is it!!

And a touch of bling adds to the special-ness, (cos that is 'totally' a word!)

I must say that the Lindt chocolates that were in this couldn't be photographed....ummm, they are otherwise disposed...ie: enjoyed and eaten!!

Thanks Deborah, I really appreciate this little surprise & this treat will take pride of place on my shelves in my stamping room :)

2018 Retirement List Blog Hop

Here we go with another amazing Blog Hop!! You have possibly come from Nicole's incredible page & designs. How gorgeous is her work? Thanks for playing along also, Nicole :)

When names were requested for this Blog Hop, I jumped at the chance!! I love to see people's ideas & interpretation of the theme of each hop... This theme, of course, is to use items from the Retiring List...

I decided to pull out all the retiring colours, the stamp sets, embossing folders & punches to see what sparked my interest. This is what I came up with...

 A close friend & co-worker had a baby a year ago, so Yusuf is now turning 1!! Our excitement for him almost matches how super cute he is!! So of course, he needs a special 1st birthday card...

Ive used the Myths & Magic Special DSP, Large Numbers Die & already retired Elegant Label Punch, on a base of Dapper Denim & Whisper White cardstock.

And can you see that Ive sponged the Silver Glimmer Paper for the #1? How super cool, errr, magical is that!!

It's another first for me that I use 2 designs of the DSP on one card, the wizards AND the brave knight fighting his dragon!! The Number of Years stamp set is wonderful that it includes the 'ST' so that our cards can be grammatically correct, isn't it?

 I always love to do projects that aren't only a card, so I went hunting in my stash of 'things that I've bought & will get back to one day', dont you have a pile like that too?

I found this card box & also remembered that my work have been asking for a supply of cards of mine. This is so that the staff members can flick through when they need a cards & it is immediately there for them... How perfect will this box be?

Whenever I choose an item like this, I always paint the edges, I just dont like the wooden finish. And I almost always paint them white... Then the many layers of Tear 'n Tape ensures the DSP will last on the project for a long time & shoul withstand a little bit of wear & tear, better than only using the tape around the edges, for example.


















Using the tape makes this projet so quick to complete, as you can use a craft knife to cut around the edges precisely for a smart finish & it is almost done.
(Ps, dont look at how I still need to paint over the exposed wooden edges, ok....)

 Now with the dividers also completed, the various cards can go in & lots of people will be happy to purchase & send or give a card to a loved one.

And now for my final item to show you...

Im a bit sad that the Magical Day stamp set is retiring, so Im not quite sure that I will be willing to part with it...& I've also used the Birthday Wit Set AND Sunshine & Rainbows on the one card!!!!

This card has a base of Whisper White with a mat of Sweet Sugarplum.

My rainbow is Elegant Eggplant, Dapper Denim, Marina Mist, Wild Wasabi, Peekaboo Peach, Tangerine Tango & Rose Red - my (retiring) interpretation of the V.I.B.G.Y.O.R. rainbow acronym :)

Ive made this card for another close friend & co-worker who is celebrating her birthday with 'our' baby that is turning 1, yes, on the same day!!

Melissa is such an incredibly driven woman, always is aware of her food intake, cooks incredible food, achieves greatness in her fitness & just loves unicorns - what a balance, hey?
 You never can tell how a card will come together, do you? 3 sets on the one card - Im still smiling about that one...

Preparing For OnStage 2018!!

For those of you who dont know, Stampin' Up! organise various events for demonstrators to attend. This weekend, April 8th April, saw 600 of mostly Australian demos gathering at Sydney's incredible Luna Park for OnStage 2018.

The lead up to this is full of excitement, especially because we knew that a new catalogue was being released!! During these events, lots of the demonstrators make swaps to show off their skills when making cards, 3D items or even scrapbooking ideas. It is a fantastic way to show off the products and in turn, the recipient gains many, many ideas of new ways to use possibly that same product.

This year, right up until 2 weeks before OnStage, I wasnt going to make any swaps - I had no idea of what to make or even an idea of what to do....

And then I found a small stash of metal rings that I had purchased about 5 years ago...
So then, 'it was on, like Donkey Kong!!'

I had made this type of ring before, so I wasnt learning anything new - I could get straight into making them quickly...

Initially I cut a heap of scrap cardstock up, 1 cm in width & for as long as the length of cardstock.

I began by burnishing the complete peices, then gluing the two ends together, just to stop it from rolling around and not actually attaching to anything. It needed the glue to hold it together.

Once it began to roll over itself, I just continued the process. If I got to the end of the cardstock peice & wanted to either continue with that colour or begin another one, I glue the next peice from where the other finishes & so on...

Those trusty pegs come in handy when needing to hold the rolls together, but move onto the next one... I keep about 20 pegs on my turntable of tools, for this type of job exactly!!

I tried a little experiment on this design & added a couple of smaller peices of Real Red & Whisper White cardstock to give the feathered effect... What do you think of it?

When the metal base of the ring was adhered to the cardstock, I would leave them to dry overnight. This ensured the glue was completely dry & finger print free!!

Then it was just a case of ensuring good coverage for the top of the rings. I applied the glue liberally & made sure it dripped into any crevaces within the rolled cardstock so that the finish was as good as it could be. Of course, the pegs came into their own again, along with a big sign telling my teens to stay away from the wet items!!

 Here are a couple of the rings, with the acetate box that Id made to hand them out in. I had wanted to make a box that was similar to a jewellery box from a nice jewellery shop, I guess it kinda looked like that, right?

 These are fun to make & you can experiment with colours or even folding techniques... Just ensure you leave them to dry long enought, otherwise you may be handing out your fingerprints, by mistake!!

This gorgous mess if the first 35 or so of my swaps... I thought I was finished until I found another 16 or so rings & began the process again... Alas, I got to make another 7 on top of my original 35 & chose to stop there, or I may have missed my plane to Sydney!!
